Just curious what the build date on your bike is.
I checked out the white sticker on the L side of the steering head.
My 1983 LK series was made in 5/82. Seems kinda early to be calling it a 1983 year model but it has the correct 37mm front forks & the bigger fuel tank. Last digits on the VIN are 0460 so I assume it's the 460th 83 made.
My other two parts bikes were made 2/82 & 4/82
I'll look up the sequence numbers later & post them here too.

My bike was made in 3/82.....last 4 numbers are 4082
I have a parts bike made in 2/82....can't read the last 2 #'s....1st two are 11
I don't even think they imported 4000 of these bikes in both 82 and 83, I could be wrong but i know it's a low number....it would be kinda cool to know what production # our bikes are though.

The two parts bikes I got are:
    4/82 5947
    2/82 1032

The 2nd bike is probably going to be put back on the road, if the engine checks out good. It's missing the front fairing pieces, and some other smaller pieces.

The first bike is a frame, engine & wheels. It would take a lot of parts to get it back. It does have a turbo still on it, though.

The frame number stamped on the right side of the steering head will have the last digits. The engine, if it is original should also have the same numbers stamped on the right side above the clutch.

When you consider that some of these bikes were shipped to many other countries, I bet you are right about the small number that arrived here in North America. I've seen at least 2 Canadian ones parted out in the last couple of months.
Especially the 1983 model - Only 1500 were made for the world.
    They are rare.

    Hi all,
Just bought a XJ650 Turbo here in Australia. Early 1982 model with build number 284. Is this the earliest one on the Net????? Must only be a handful of these down under.

Also there is 1 part missing on the bike. Does anyone have the plastic handlebar and ignition switch top cover??

    Cheers.

Sorry to revive this post from way back, but I was wondering if the last numbers were the production numbers. Mine is 3077. Is that the 3077th bike made or is it the 77th? I can't remember the build date on it. Any info would be appreciated! Thanks

How do you determine the build date? My 82 650 Maxim VIN has the last four being 0748.

    Cheers,

    Phil
