My blinker switch is broken beyond the point of repair. I want to replace my blinker lights with LED units so I thought I could replace my switch with somethin cheap replace the signal relay, remove the auto cancel unit and replace the OEM lights with LED. I already have the switch and the lights. I could, through trial and error and the wiring diagram, figure it out but I think that it would be wiser and easier to ask the forum guru's help. My bike is a 1980 maxim 650. Thanks for any help.

Two of the three wires into the switch have broken out of the solder. One of the small brass rivets that the wire is supposed to be soldered into is broken out of the plastic. What I am looking for is witch wires to use and witch ones to abandon. I will be replacing the old flasher with a led flasher.

the center wire is the common wire on the switch when you slide the switch left or right, the centerwire connects to the outer wire in the direction you pushed the switch.

Use all of them, abandon none. You will need an electronic flasher, but will lose the self-canceling feature.

What about the cancelling unit? I'm not going to have the feature, shouldn't I remove the unit therefore have vestigial wires?

It unplugs if you want to sell it, or save it for the next owner. I would either just leave the unit plugged in, or shrink wrap the harness plug. Cutting wires is just asking for more trouble down the road with the potential for a short due to corrosion.

Ok, I think I get it. I'm waiting on my signal unit but I will post the final result. Thanks for the help.
