Im about to just junk this bike out. I tried to remove the striped pilot screw and my easy out broke off in the damn thing, so I can't get it out now. I need some suggestions, please. If I have to buy a new carb then Im gonna have to go kill someone here. Otherwise, is there anyotherway to get this damn screw out?!

Yank the carbs and take them to a machine shop. Let them do it. And don't go killing anyone - it's not worth it! (Actually, I was a bit concerned about the possibility of "the Man" keying in on your choice of words and taking it for the wrong meaning.) I know it's frustrating - I'm having the same kind of things with my 550. Just gut it out and force yourself to be patient.

Removed the carb and took it to a local machine shop. They pointed out that I had rounded part of the metal beside the screw and that it was a good chance that even if they got the screw out, it would not work. I checked the local junk yard, and they have no motorcycles to speak of. I am at a total lose on this now. I either need to buy a new carb for this bike, or junk out the bike now. Jesus, this sucks...

Lots of used carbs on ebay. One carb should not decide the fate of a nice bike, keep working at it and it will be well worth the effort.

Can anyone point me to a place I can find them? Ebay doesn't have any for the 550.

One good idea would be to post a WTB in the appropriate forum here, someone may have one on a parts bike they are willing to let go.

Be patient. Keep looking on Ebay, more will show up. Don't let the lack of a single carb deter you from getting such a classic bike back running again.

You can also post a request on http://www.riderparts.com. Lots of bike salvage yards subscribe to the site, and any that have the carb will reply to you with price and condition.

    Good luck!

P.S. I lived in Bowling Green from 1989-1996. Nice place!

I saw this, but the carbs he has are for a xj650, and I am pretty sure that the size of the carbs for a bigger engine would be larger than what I need. I am finding several places online now for carbs, and waiting for other quotes to come in before I purchase some...

Nah, I think he's fine right now, riding somewhere on his 550, wind flowing through his hair with a big grin on his face as he laughs at himself for being all upset about nothing.

Also, I brought a complete set of carbs on ebay for $28. However, be prepared because parts might be broken or missing. I was lucky with mine, not too bad. Just dirty.
