My '82 Maxim "girlfriend training/test/crash bike" has been an absolute dream. She is now on her 4th turn signal, 3rd clutch lever, 2nd brake lever, and 5th or 6th foot peg repair and it it still runs like a bat out of... you know where.

However, there is something than is bothering me. The low engine oil sensor comes on all the time. I understand when she lays it down that is naturally comes on and takes a while before you can start the bike. But, sometimes when I ride it into town, extremely slow maneuvering makes the thing come on. I have changed the oil and filter twice in the last 1000 miles, and I check it RELIGIOUSLY before each use along with all other fluids and cables (after all she is girlfriend). It's not low!!! It is at the top of the viewing window at rest, and just above the bottom during operation. What the heck is going on here? Do I have a sensor problem?

I'd try pulling out the sensor and cleaning it off. Or it could be an electrical issue, bad insulation on a wire?

have you tried just ading a little bit and seeing if it stays off? Can always drain it back out if it doesn't fix the problem.

sounds like a dirty sensor, have you used seafome in the oil before changing it. if that doenst get things undone ive heard that some times the wire that comes from the sensor will get mashed and worn so that it will give you some false readings, Check the wiring

I agree, clean out that sensor.
There was a factory tech bulletin sent out on this issue where the oil light would "flicker" at idle. Their fix was to ensure that the oil level reached the top of the fill range window at idle. Might be useful.
