The backwards shuffle shouldn't be this hard.

As I have posted before ( and is posted as my signature), I have a 1983 XJ750MK Midnight Maxim. As you know its has a drive shaft. But I am experience something that seems to be troubling me a little. The bike seems to be experiencing a little drag and is a little hard to back up. When I turn the wheel to the right it seems to be just fine, but as soon as I turn the wheel to the left, it becomes harder. And yesterday I tried it again, and even turning the bars to the right it gave me torouble. I am not sitting on the bike when trying this; I am standing next to the bike rolling it backwards.

The bike shouldn't be hard to move backwards at all. I dont know if this condition is normal because of the drive shaft, or if there is something wrong. And yes, the bike is in neutral when I move it. Any suggestions as to what this could be?

Should push backward just as easy as frontward. Brakes (front or rear) dragging?

Put it up on the center stand. Turn the back wheel frontwards and backwards.

Find a fat chick (or 2 thin ones!)* to sit on it and raise the front wheel. Try turning it by hand also.

    Which wheel is dragging?

    Check brakes and bearings.

*In a pinch you can have a buddy sit on it, but the girls would be more fun.

Didn't you just complete a whole lot of work on that bike.

If you have new front brake pads ... that will cause the bike to be pretty stiff trying to roll it with those new pads and those nice dual discs.

I didn't mean to post this in modifications, I guess I wasn't paying attention. But It rolls easy forward, but not bacwards. I'll have to check each tire. I'll check thwe brakes, and I'm also in the process of carb cleaning, so I have two problems to take care of.

Don't sweat posting in the wrong forum, we can fix that. Just PM me if I don't catch it. You will get much more traffic and subsequently more suggestions when you get your post to the correct target audience. Peaceful journeys!

You need to rebuild your brakes.

Gently pry-push on your disc pads with a screwdriver to retract them 1MM and see if it helps - - (without gouging the disc or pad material)

If it doesn't help, see brake check in my sig line.
