Got a manual for the swingarm procedure and torque specs?

Good time to inspect and replace the swingarm bearings and seals, and driveshaft seal.

Watch the spring removal for the boot. Mine was stuck in the boot and I stretched it out when attempting to remove it. Chacal has new ones if you need to replace.

    Good man.

There was one seal that was kinda tricky to figure out, its the one on the shaft itself where it fits into the drive coupler. Here was the part in case you need it:

HCP5108 OEM driveshaft REAR OIL SEAL, fits at the rear of the driveshaft, and seals where the shaft gear enters into the final drive input coupler gear. For all XJ650, XJ700, XJ750, and all XJ900RK, RL, N/FN, and F.

You should update your signature with your bike info. I think you've got an 83 Maxim so that is assuming you are talking about that bike.

No, you do NOT need to pull the swing arm.

You DO need to pull the drive shaft.

    here's how to did it:

    -Remove the rear wheel
    -remove the rear hub
    -remove the driveshaft
    -unhook the boot spring
    -remove the old boot
-work the new boot into position..... It's soft rubber, you can work it around things
    -re-install driveshaft
    -reinstall rear gear
    -re-install rear wheel
-hook up front and back of boot, spring on the front, over the lip of the swing arm at the other end of the boot

It's a 20 minute job. I did it for a carb clinic job a few years ago for Gary Smith.

So you can clean, inspect, and re-grease the swingarm bearings (though that can wait until winter).
