I have a 81 750 seca. I was replacing the brake shoes and noticed that the axle would not go into the left side, gear side, without lifting the rear tire with a small pry bar. I took it back out and noticed the almost 3 inch spacer fits loosely in the gear assembly. I don't think this is normal. What's the fix for it? I know my maxim axle slides right through with no fuss.

Since you have another bike you could take the rear off of it and compare the parts (take measurements) and look for signs of wear. The rear ends are the same.
The collar on the drive side is a slip-fit, but there should be no radial slop.

Thanks k-moe and Len, Len that article is dead on about the spacer. The picture is exactly the same as mine. I will put it back together and take it for a ride!
