    Hi All
I've just got round to checking the length of the dredded alternator brushes, now not wanting to sound stupid.....but.......The length that you measure is it with the brushes in place and measure the visible portion of the brush or do you have to take them out of the housing? If it's the length that is protruding the housing then mine are 10mm and 9mm so need changing.

    Cheers
    Lea

I know that on the original set, there are lines scribed into the brushes to indicate the amount of wear remaining. If you see them and there are plenty to go, you should be fine.

But if you don't see any, maybe measure it (Rick or someone will tell you how many should be remaining).

as far east as you can get in michigan 43.027407,
during my cleaning and polishing i had that cover off...

i measured about 12mm overall length and probably 2/3 of that was from the wear end and the scribed line...

hope im good for now because that was a bear of a cover to get off and back on properly...
