Since I put the '83 750mk I've got on the road, I've been fighting a losing battle against the seat cover on it.

The cover doesn't look too terrible in this picture because of pixilation, lighting, and the fact I was able to sew some busted stitching back together, but the area just above the side cover, on the side of the seat facing the camera, is all torn up. This is an older picture and it's just gotten worse and worse as time went on. I've got the seat off of the bike currently, last ditch attempt to repair the tearing with a permatex vinyl repair goop I picked up at the store, but I'm starting to think this cover is a lost cause.

I wanted to ask, what's out there? I've found inexpensive replacement seat covers on Ebay, but they don't seem to fit the form factor of my seat. My bike is the midnight maxim, am I correct in saying the seat foam shape is different from the standard maxims? The replacement covers I see seem to be for the much flatter style seats, not for the curved thing my bike has.
I'll admit some preference for the standard maxim style seat, a bit more like the simple straight lined honda CB750 style, less like sitting in a sawblade, but ultimately I just want a seat that isn't going to rot away when the repairs I'm making to it fail.

So does anyone have any ideas for repairing a crumbly section of vintage vinyl, or any other useful leads? I'm pretty much perpetually strapped for cash, so usually the low bid wins.

You have an aftermarket seat. If you want to keep it, your best bet is to have an upholsterer recover it, or buy some seat vinyl and do it yourself. You can use your existing cover as a pattern.

try to find a good upholsterer that does many motorcycle seats. I had my 750 maxim stock seat recontoured to fit me, with memory foam added. and new cover. very reasonable. what a difference it made!
