Has anybody bought from Motodirect before?

They've got DOT approved helmets for as low as $30.00 bucks.

Yeah, I bought this one from them:
    http://www.motodirect.com/Detail.bok?no=133

Not bad; didn't quite fit me, but I kept it for my wife. (Found out I can't wear a helmet with a chin bar - had to buy a 3/4 with a full windscreen for myself.)

Pretty fast shipping, return policy was fair (If I hadn't kept it, they'd have sent me a different size or style), and the price was definitely right.

Time for a lil 'edumacation' Mate.
    Google up Motorcycle Accident Information/stats
Learn that a Lot (seriously high percentage) of accidents occur where the lower jaw impacts hard enough to sever spinal cord... or even worse damage it.
    Evolution continues unabated..

Yeah, I wear a full one now. I want a shorty for those little quick rides, etc. I know, I'm party stupid. ;-)

I know that... We had a discussion about this a couple months ago.
    http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=3 ... rt=30.html
I agree completely that a full-face helmet is significantly safer, since 35% of helmet impacts hit the chin bar.
    http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=5 ... elmet.html

The problem, after trying on many different styles and sizes of many different brands, is that my neck and jaw are too big. If I wear a full-face helmet that fits my head, the chin bar is so tight that I can't close my jaw, and my chin sticks out below the bar.

If, on the other hand, I wear a full-face helmet that's spacious enough for my jaw, the head part is loose enough that I can pull off the helmet even with the chin strap buckled.

It's the lesser of two evils, I'm afraid.

I'm sure there's a solution out there for you, 82. If nothing else, you could have a custom job done on the lining of the helmet. I doubt it'd cost all that much, either. Helmet's one of a few items I try not to take shortcuts on.

Which makes me curious about these helmets. They're crazy cheap. Too cheap? I'm sure some money goes into comfort, but are these helmets safe? DOT approved, I see, but that price is scary good. Actually, just about everything on that site is scary inexpensive.

That's the question, of course. Although according to the test that Motorcyclist Online did, more expensive doesn't automatically equal safer (there's a link in the first thread I posted up above). In fact, the helmet that transmitted the least g's to the skull sensor in their test was a $69 Raider helmet from Pep Boys.

As far as the Moto-Direct helmets go, mine feels pretty solid, and it fits securely.

I'm always looking for a full-face helmet that fits well, though, and as soon as I find one, you bet I'll buy it.

Would a motocross helmet solve this problem? They seem to have more chin room.

I wear a full face helmet, but when i'm just doing intown riding around it gets rather annyouing taking the glasses (sunglasses and eyeglasses when i'm not wearing contacts) off then pulling the helmet on off... i would rather for intown driving to have something easy to pull off and on, and those helmets just might be something i'm looking for.. now don't get me wrong, on my long trips i plan on having that ff helmet, and even the trips on the highways its going to be the ff helmet.. but a shorty would be something i could use..

    I can't believe it.
I just bought a NEW Carbon Fiber Helmet!
They are shipping it right to my anxiously awaiting hands for a mere $35.00!

    I hope its LEGAL!

Although, it looks a whole lot safer than some of the Plastic Yarmulke's I see on some of the H-D Owner's flying around here!

I managed to get a new G-Max 28 helmet off eBay for 40 dollars including shipping. It saved my head (I had a Durango rear tire go over it while my head was inside) so I believe that they can be good.

Trying to find the same model again! It also fit perfectly...

On the other hand, I spent $ 250.00 on a Suomy Capirossi that is $ 500.00 new...

I have one of those $69 Raider helmets and it seems to be one of the best helmets I've used. My previous helmet buffeted around in the wind at highway speeds really bad. This helmet fits me very well. I bought it prety snug so that is doesn't move at all, but it's still pretty comfortable.

I just picked up an EXL MJ-501 jacket from them and I'm very impressed with the quality, price, shipping charges and service. They'll get more orders from me.
