The oil filter bolt not coming out is a telltale of how few people bother to do any maintenance on motorcycles. I love the spin-on adapter.

I finally put mine on the other day too. Looks pretty slick and the oil is probably getting filtered better since it's a higher quality filter, not to mention easier filter changes. Good purchase... Thanks to Len at XJ4Ever.

    +1
And to add to the discussion; many more modern motorcycles and cars use cartridge filters than used to be the case, so the quality of filtration media varies across all types of oil filters. You can get every type of filter media available in both cartridge and canister filters now. I like the spin-on mainly because I travel, and it makes it a bit easier to find a good filter no matter what town I may be in when I need to change the oil.

it is a nice convenient cleaner way to change filter, but you do have to research the filters you use just because it is in a can doesn't make it a better filter.

Yes, I have seen lots of research on automotive spin-on filters including cutaways, media measurements, material comparisons, anti-drainback valve construction and material, etc. I know there is a lot of difference in quality between them. Maybe I should have said I think the spin-on filter that I'm using will filter better than the stock type filter I had in there. I've never seen a direct comparison between the two though so it's just a judgment call on my part. I could be wrong though... It wouldn't be the first time...lol.
