Can you get a oil filter for a XJ 550 at AutoZone or a auto parts store?

Sometimes. It all depends on what they choose to keep in stock. I would probably call first as I have only been able to find one at a brick and mortar store once in the two years I have had my XJ.

Either Fram CH6003 or Wix 24934. Any parts store should have either. Both come with o-rings as well.....$5 or less

Holy smokes the filter bolt is tight.
It's making me a little nervous. This bike was sitting outside for years.
I think I'll get a impact driver to get it off

My Advance Auto keeps the filters with the lawnmower/small engine stuff.

Yeah, it's crazy how much people tighten those bolts....I'm not sure of the exact number, but that bolt is supposed to be tightened in inch/lbs. something like 14 or so....in other words, just snug it up!

My advice to loosen up that bolt is to use a long breaker bar and apply the torque lightly....these girls appreciate a gentle touch

I tried using a 3/8 air impact driver. that didn't work so I used a 1/2 drive ratchet.
It finally broke loose. I ordered a filter from Napa and it's supposed to be here in the morning.
They are really proud of the stuff they sell. I'm gonna look into getting some in bulk for the future
    Thanks for the help
    Will
