My 83 750 won't start with the switch but will compression start. When I hit the switch the solenoid clicks? Any suggestions. I have had it for a year with no problems. Need some advice!

Does it start when you lay a screwdriver across the two large solenoid terminals?

I pulled the solenoid out of the bike so I just put it back in so I could jump it and I hit the switch to see if it would do anything and it turned over but tha battery ran down quick so now its on a charger. I replace the battery in January... I'll see what happens when it all charged up!

I tried to jump the solenoid and it did nothing, not even spark! Should I get a new one?

Yes. You should definitely get a new battery. There should have been sparks no matter the condition of the starter solenoid.
