So I bought myself an 82 xj550 maxim.
I was having issues with the main wire harness and I noticed that it was messed with by a previous owner. So I decided to rewire it using a diagram I found on here. I already wired it up and it works great. The only issue is I don't know if the neutral light could handle the full 12 v without a diode. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The instrument lamps are all 12 volt.

the diode is not for voltage restriction .

sweet! so my theory is to wire power to the light then out of the light to the one white wire out of the motor (what i think is the neutral switch) and it would ground to the motor in the threads. am i wrong?

power to bulb then ground goes from bulb to neutral safety switch where is is grounded when in neutral at the switch.
just understand that wiring it this way removes it from the safety system and just becomes another light which tells you when you find neutral.

your bike will start in any gear with the sidestand down

This is my first bike and I'm not quite used to finding neural yet. Thanks for the advice I will probably mess with that light tonight, I'll let you know how if I run into issues.
