I just purchased a 1982 maxum. The previous ower didn't know what size motor it had, the title didn't have a cc's size on it. I was hoping someone could give a tip on how to figure out what size the motor is. I believe they made a 550, 650, and a 750. Correct me if I'm mistaken. I look all over the bike and came up with nothing. Someone told me they stamped the motor size on the bottom of the cyclinder on the left side, but there was nothing stamped there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Front of the engine, stamped on the cylinders between #2 and #3 exhaust, just above the engine mount crossbeam. a 550 will read 528cc.

If it is chain drive then it is a 550.
    All others are shaft driven.

    It's a shaft drive. So now how do I tell if it's a 650 or a 750

    653cc or 748cc

The easier way is to look at the instrument cluster (assuming a stock bike). The 750 has an integrated unit with an LCD display between the gauges.
