So I re wired my Xj550 RH to a basic hard wiring diagram off the diagram there are 3- 10amp accessories add fuse blocks. my motorcycle ran and charged the battery fine prior to me adding my headlight to one of these add on 10 amp blocks. took my bike out for a ride to makes sure it would stay charged because charging I have had charging issues with it sense I bought it got home and shut it off low battery and would not kick over and start. I have replaced everything to do with the charging system except cleaning the drum I get perfect volts when idiling and running but after hooking up my light it won't start after a ride . any ideas . 0428161834_HDR.jpg

have you checked your brushes for wear?
clean the copper rings while your checking the brushes
use an eraser and electrical cleaner more eraser than cleaner.

how old is the battery ?
    what size headlight, watts?

did you clean the ground connection to motor and frame

    Fuel levels wet-set?

Your bike should go like stink anywhere above 5,500 RPM and top out at around 110 MPH. It has a six-speed transmission.

it is not about being over 10 amps(120 watts) it is about the wattage of the bulb 50/40 watts

it is also high or low beam not both for the head light

fs manual states bulb 50/40 watts that could be for a sealed beam some H4 Bulb light setups have lower wattage, but not by factory spec reasons

are you sure that both bulb filliments are not being used at the same time?
did you replace the brushes only or the holder as an assembly?
    clean the copper rings.

ground from the voltage regulator is a heavy wire on my bike I belive it is the ground at the coil pack.
my battery grounds to motor then from motor to frame.
have you checked the charging voltage when you start the bike? should climb to 14.2 volts at 2000 rpm. try this with head light installed and uninstalled.
it could be your brushes are making poor contact to the copper rings

    test fuel levels
also check to see if all your exhaust headers are getting hot you may have some cylinders not firing

Forget the silly pod filters and put a proper airbox on the bike if you ever want it to run right. What kind of RPM are you running on the motor? Speak in terms of engine speed if possible, not vehicle speed.
