Speedometer wasn't working so I found one at the junkyard I liked.

A bit of trial and error and using one box out of the old cluster and I got it all working. The four lights tachometer backlight and even the speedometer was working. Then I got home from that test ride and turned it off and that was the last of it. Any idea what I could have messed up? And is there a way to wire up the headlight without going through the old instrument cluster?

Does it turn over, if not, give your starter solenoid a tap while pushing the start button and if it turns over it's you solenoid. (I had this problem recently on my 550maxim)

Did you follow the instructions in the ATARI Delete thread? You can't just swap the gauges and wire the lights. The systems monitor has to be bypassed correctly.

Battery is still strong and checked the fuses they seem good, but it's still the old glass tubes so I guess I'm done putting off switching those to blades to be sure. Total bike noob and even worse at electrical. How do I go about checking grounds?

As for the atari delete I'm a bit timid to start cutting just yet. The colors of the wires at the plugs seem to be different on my bike. Should I go ahead and follow by color or by location at the plug?

The colors may be faded, but they aren't different.

So I've done the atari delete and have new fuses installed. Still nothing. No headlight no instrument lighting, no turn signals no neutral light. Nothing. Might as well have the battery out, the results would be the same. I'm pretty stumped here.
