    Hey guys..
So now that the bike is running I'm going to make some upgrades..
I'd like to get an inline fuel filter.. But I've never done it before..
I was wondering.. are there different sizes I should be aware of?
    Are there different types?

Is is really just unplug plug and re-plug?

    Thanks in advance,
    Hot Action

There are difference sizes available, but our bikes use 1/4" fuel line, so you want one with 1/4" hose barbs.

I'm told if you look around hard enough, you can find them with a right angle input - works much better for sitting between the carbs.

If you get the standard straight, just get as small as you can, and fit it as best you can. You do have to cut into the fuel line to mount it, but other than that it's just a plug & go thing

Might be a good idea to replac the whole fuel line while your at it. Cheap and easy to do. Just make sure you get ful line and not a vaccum hose. Luckily for me Mine busted while sitting in the drive.

My '81 Seca 550 uses a 5/16" fuel line and my in-line filter has 5/16" fittings.

I got the fuel filter from Bike Bandit.

It would be nice if someone could post a NAPA part # of a fuel filter that fits in the space well, does anyone have that info available?

I got mine from Z1 Enterprise, small clear plastic, size of 50 cent.

But really, you could use just about any kind of in-line filter you can find. The only thing is the size of the nozzle, they need to be about the same (not necessarily exactly) size as the hose connecting to it. I use worm clamps on mine and the hose is clear (you can get that from Z1 Enterprise or any auto supply stores) as well.

I just replaced my fuel line and vacuum line as preventative maintenance, but never considered clear line. That's a good idea, I might do that when I pick up a filter.

I replaced BOTH Gas and Vacuum Lines when I added the inline Filter. Went with Clear Gas Line to monitor things; too.

I also added some Length to BOTH ... so I can Lift the tank and side-saddle it on a rubber mat to do some tweaking and such.

The Loops in the Hoses aren't very large. I have them configured so that they don't tangle when I lift-off the Tank.
This makes it real easy to do a few things without breaking the Fuel Connection. My Gas Line loops ... but, still goes "Down-hill" to the Carbs.

This might sound silly to some ... but, "Bleed" the air out of the inline Filter.
Let the Fuel flow into the line and then "Walk" the air bubble out ... letting it rise along the hose and back up into the Tank.

My theroy is that the "Air Bubble" inside a Gravity Flow and Un-pressurized system will serve to limit the flow of gas.
That empty space is limiting full flow.
(Or at least it seems too in the deep recesses of my aging mind ... or it's just another stupid anal retentive past-practice I need to do in order to be able to sleep, nights!)

I increased the length on mine as well, but was concerned about adding as much as you did Rick. I worried that the gravity feed might not like dealing with a loop. Glad I was wrong. :)

Look up item number 150120556793 on EBay. I have these fitted to my Xs and they make the routing of the fuel line easier.

Both CARQUEST and NAPA should be able to sell you a Primeline brand fuel filter part number 7-02357.

This filter has 1/4" nipples and is only about an inch in diameter. I've got one on my bike and it fits nicely between the tank and carbs.

I added a fuel filter this summer and used some very small, pink zipties to hold it on.

Good idea takin the spare that filter is a looker and seems to be well made.......Off the subject a little but about fuel for the older bikes I noticed it calls for leaded fuel and 40 wt. oil, let me run this buy you ( I have been using 10/40 straight synthetic in the motor and gear box and also synthetic rear gear oil, also in the tank I have pre-mixed 5 gal. cans of 87 octane(cheapy cheap stuff) BUT I have mixed into them amounts of octane booster, marvel mystery oil,and lead substitute and Berrymans Chemtool and have good results in quick starts and idle and high REV. protection along with those Iridium plugs that save the ignition system I'm a happy camper so far.......but i know that Murphys Law is always around the next corner (call me a realist).........lol
take care and have a nice holiday whats left of it Bro.
