So I changed out my stock handlebars for some black coated drag bars from Emgo. Bought from Amazon. Everything went fine until I tried to start my back. I heard from a buddy it might be because the paint on the bars are preventing the starter switch on the right hand controls to get a good ground to the handlebars/frame.

Is this a thing? I was told to chip or sand the paint off the section where the switch is. Any other tips?

What bike? Some earlier ones did use the handlebars for ground for the starter switch. You can clean the paint off in the correct areas or run a ground wire.

I'm not familiar with that bike but you can take a piece of wire and run it from a ground/bare metal part and touch a screw on the switch housing and see if it works then. That'll tell ya if you need to ground it.

    So here's an update...

I took my dremel and sanded a section of paint off all around the bar where the control switch housing is, and I did the same for the right side bracket that holds the handlebar on the triple tree. Started RIGHT UP! Problem solved! Thanks for the help, guys.
