O.K. I went through and cleaned the carbs per Rick's instructiuons (worked great, thanks Rick!). When I go down the road to shift gears the RPM's don't drop they just stay up. When I come to a stop sign and release the throttle and start braking the the idle comes down. Would this be the springs on the carb or possibly a throttle cable? Could a person rig up another spring to help bring the cable out, such as on a car?

It may be indicative of a sticky throttle cable. Make sure it's lubed up real good. Also, it should snap back to idle when you let go of the throttle. Roll on the throttle then let go. It should yank back to the idle position. If not, you'll want to find out why.

Sounds like the return springs. It could be the cable is hanging up. Pull the tank to get a better look at things. disconect the cable to make shure its not binding. Then check your carb spring and make shure it hooked up correctly.

sounds like the carbs need to be synced. My bike had a similar probloem befor I synced them. Purrs like a kitten now.

samsr might have it right. I experienced the same thing before I built a YICS tool to sync in the carbs. The more I think about it, I'm sure the problem went away after I resynced with the tool installed. Check those other things, also.

I haven't synced the carbs yet after cleaning them. Wasn't sure if I should do that or tear everything back down..I'll give that a shot first. Didn't have problem before I tore it down. When I had the carbs out the springs returned back real good so I leaning away from that being a problem after some of these suggestions. Next project for the weekend I guess...

If you decide to do a tear-down, you'll want to bench-synch your carbs before re-installing them.

I did do a bench synch using instructions that I found on here (sorry not the ones you linked to) and will go from there. I also need to find a color tune to get my mix right. This is my first bike and has been and adventure. The riding and repairing get addictive.
