RPMS JUMP WHEN RIDING

Hi I just bought a 1982 yamaha xj650 maxim and when I'm riding at 60 lets say,ithe will jerk me back for a quick second then cruise back at 60 what's the problem and how can I fix it.

 

what do you mean by jerk me back??

do your rpms rise and no increase in speed?

could it be the clutch slipping and catching back up?

 

thats what i am thinking.
with luck he has the wrong oil in it

 

ya i think its that or if somehow he isnt running on all four and every now and then one kicks in. like a fouled plug or something but its probably in the clutch trany or possibility there is a missing tooth on the drive line?

No it speeds up to then back to normal speed it a quick jerk back

 

The oil I just put in it was 10w-40 motorcycle oil

 

what speeds up the motor rpm ?
or the mph and rpm

 

does it do it at the same mph in the same gear or is it random

Both motor and rpms for just a quick second though then it goes away
