    image.jpeg Hey guys,
I just picked up a 1982 Yamaha XJ750. I got it for 400 bucks! The guy was in the process of turning it into a bobber and lost interest. He removed the rear shocks and put on strut deletes and by doing that I have to put on a solo seat. My question is as far as a seat what are my options? I have a solo seat on it now but I hate seeing the bars under the seat. Thank you

What is the bolt-to-bolt distance on the struts? It looks like the PO may have lowered it a bit too far for the U-joint to be happy.

The length is 10 inches. It drops the ride height about 4 inches

    4 inches is 2 inches too-far.
New U-joints are expensive (half the price you paid for the bike).

My advice. Make longer struts, or get a pair of correct-length shocks in black.

Can someone explain this 'hard-tail' thing ? What I am missing? or is it fashionable to get a sore arse and bad back..

i believe it to be a drag thing but most peolpe just like the look of it. its not for comfort but thats why you have the springer seat so make up for no shocks in the back. i have seen tractor seats used often

I personally got into hard-tailing to be different. You don't see a lot of hard-tailed shaft driven bikes out there. Well I should say hard-tailed the right way. I drove Harley's all my life but got tired of having the same bike as everyone else. I am real big on adding custom details on the bike to make it stand apart for the crowd.
