Looking at a used one with the factory side aluminum rail pieces that mount the shocks and a fabricated "handle" attached to the uprights. Would like some help getting it on the center stand and horsing it around when necessary! CruiserXJ650

Anybody? Is the rear frame of an XJ750 the same as an XJ650, as far as mounting points for the factory grab bar on the frame? Or, could I just drill new holes in the factory xj750 aluminum side rails? It looks like very nearly the same part, but I have no measurements. I noticed that there was no hole for the helmet/sear lock used on the 650, but I can drill that.

The frames are different. The passenger grab rails are different.

The real thing to have is a standing handle. Which XJ650 do you have (there were three sub-models)?

Mine is a 1980 (4H7 - 12xx serial), an early G Model if I read the info here correctly.

    You have a Maxim.
They did not come with standing handles, but it wouldn't be much work to make one from steel tubing (electrical conduit would even work). Do you have a hammer, a drill, and a vise?

Yes, I do - I will look at other bikes locally to get an idea - I had just hoped for a bolt on solution.
    Thanks!

one end to shock stud bend to follow contour of frame other end to flasher light mount

or similar to the rag around the shock method you could mount a leather strap to some location along the frame
