thanks also i was wondering if the inner diameter of the petcock to carby fuel hose matters to much i put a fuel injection hose on there quite thick outer diameter couldnt get the spring clip on it for the carby but the inner diameter looks cpl of mms smaller

i think fuel line is 6mm
it could affect fuel flow at higher speeds due to higher demand

1/4 inch fuel line is what you need 6mm = .23"

Should be. I run without one, but I also replace the fuel line every year. Since you used fuel line meant for a pressurized system you will need to get a larger clamp if you want to run one.

cool i did get one on the petcock side realy hard to get anyother kind of clamp on the carby side without having to take it off the whole reason i had to replace the fuel line is because i tried fitting a fuel filter i short one but still theers just no room for it there is a filter connected to the petcock in the tank i hope thats enough

I bought my XJ new in 1985. Dealer said unleaded gas no worries. He said do not run gas with alcohol in it as it will mess up the carburetors.

He may have overstated the gas with alcohol concern, and many today don't have the option but to run ethanol fuel.

I will say I've never run more than a few tanks of gas/alcohol, and 30 years later not really any carb issues.

there is an arrow on the filter .think of the filter as an arrow and it points to the petcock

you want the filter element having the maximum surface area in the upstream flow of gas
