I rebuilt the master cylinder and calipers and cleaned all the brake lines. I used a syringe and bled the brakes from the bottom up and also vacuum bled them with a mighty vac. I even bled them the traditional way but no matter how much I bleed them I can't get enough pressure to push the piston at all. I know there is some pressure because when I open the bleeder screw and press the lever there is brake fluid that will shoot out. And yes I close the bleed screw before I depress the lever so air doesn't renter the system. Is there any other reason there could be no pressure besides there being air in the system? I'm also confident I have the master cylinder built correctly.

check your slides on the calliper/ callipers are moving freels side to side they might be stuck in an offset position other then that perhaps you need to rebuild the piston seals within the calliper ...a way to tell if the slides are offset stuck is one pad will be touching disk the other will have a gap

Are those the original brake lines?

Cleaning 35 year old brake lines won't help. They should be replaced, preferably with stainless steel braided lines.
The old rubber will balloon and not direct the pressure to the caliper piston.
    Order replacement ones from XJ4Ever.

Vibratory sander. No sanding pad. Start at the calipers and work your way up to the master cylinder. The air will come out.

Define "can't get enough pressure to push the piston at all". Does the lever go to the handle bar when pulled in? If so, you still have air in the lines. Did you bench bleed the MC after the rebuild?

If the lever is not soft/spongey and met with great resistance when pulling in, then you probably have an issue with the caliper itself.

Thanks for the help, I got it working. It ended up just being air in the lines and was just a pain to get out.

Re-bleed them after a few days of riding.
