Hey guys, new XJ owner in Perth here. I just bought a project 1980 XJ650 in pretty good condition. Carbs need some work (pillars broken and gummed up) but I'm in no hurry. Interested to hear from any other WA owners.

I'm an Aussie XJ650 owner but don't have a Fbook account. I can see lots of other Fbook sites but the Yamaha XJ650 Owners Australia wants me to login. I believe in free an open internet so won't be creating an account. Is anyone able to allow public to view that site?

Hey All. Just bought an 81 XJ550. 1st refurbish/custom bike project for me, so will be trawling the forums for advice. Don't even have a bike licence yet! Any recommendations for parts suppliers in the Hills area of Sydney.

P.S. what is the rough going rate for running model like the one in the picture.

Gd evening XJAUS, all the info you could need for an XJ is here somewhere. That's your new toy in the pic i spose? it presents quite well in the pic... my guess $800 -- $1200, rego rwc ? don't seem to be too many 550's in Aus more 750 650 and some 900's tho I was talking to a bloke locally with a lightly modified 550 a coupla weeks ago, first one I've seen here in the metal, only seen 2 other 900's around here.

Hey Bushy. Already been on to Chacal for parts. The bike was brought into the country from Germany in 1990, by the woman I bought it from. She used to commute on it there before moving to Aus. (She got it up to about 190 km/h on the autobahn before backing off! My type of lady.) . It has full rego rwc until Dec 2016 . Runs well, just needs some tlc. Been in the coastal air a while. I paid $500 for it and as an added bonus it has the original tool kit and chain and padlock which is opened with the ignition key.

Plan to make it a slow gradual project since I'm new to the game. Plus it was a whim buy and not really budgeted for. Would like to customize it down the line, but am not sure which way to go.

    Hey all.
    I joined up.

Have an '84 XJ900, located in Sutherland, Sydney.

Runs well, except I have 2 plugs foul when it warms up.
Hopefully its just a coil issue and Ill be back on the road soon.

Anyone out my way up for a ride?

    Hi
I recently bought an XJ900 wreck for my brother to do a custom job on. He is based in Sutherland too. I have another XJ900 in my garage for a future resto but I'm located in Brisbane. It keeps company with an XJ750 and an XJ650LJ (which I have just got running).

Guys, you might want to try the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club for local rides and parts. www.vjmc.org.au

Get him to give me a yell for a ride some day.

Tested my coils, secondary resistance is waaay too high 21Kohm as apposed to the recommended 13.2Kohm (according to the Haynes manual).
The coils I removed have "XJ 750H 1981" written on them. Part # CM12-09

I cant seem to find the part number for an 84 XJ900 coil, I'm just going to replace them both as soon as I can find it

Cheers Joel. I recently got some parts from Chacal at XJ4Ever. They weren't cheap, but definitely great quality and service. And to me, I'm happy to pay a little more for that value add. That said, I would prefer to support a local supplier where the parts are available, so will drop you a line when I next need parts.

Any recommendations for a Sydney based workshop to reco an XJ750 motor. I imagine that many could do so but just after one that has a history of working on XJ's so there aren't surprises.

    Cheers guys.

Frapfrap, see Trev at Surfside Motorcycle Garage in Brookvale. 9905 4755. He did his apprenticeship on XJs and has a great business specialising on older bikes.
