No, I haven't opened it up, but I did check the cable and it is OK and well lubed. I will open it up and check it, but it is likely from the loud whine that lubing will not last long. Is there a thread here with a procedure to service it?

The 750 Seca unit is very accessible and straight-forward to open up.

And lubricating the speedometer workings does fix the issue. I did mine four(?) years ago, and it hasn't whined since.
There is a thread on the DYI section of this forum. It does not cover dissasembling your gauge cluster, but the speedometer is essentially the same.

OK, I will try lubing the unit when I get down to my son's place next week end. My XJ has the touring package on it, so it is not as easy to get at to remove it. I may have to remove the fairing. What kind of lubricant do you recommend??
