    Honestly? I paid $700 for mine as a second bike. It barely ran and I thought it was uglier than snot. I hated the prospect of spending money on it.

    Then I did the carbs right. Then I could ride the shit out of it. Now I've got a full front end to rebuild, and can't dream of selling her. Pretty addicting bike, and soooooo much response from 3k and up. I love it, and am willing to spend (some of) my beer money on it.

    I get more compliments on my old XJ than any of my newer bikes. It is the respect for old iron....

    Well, it ran great yesterday. I might consider selling this thing soon....it's been fun but it's like each day there is something else!

    Today now, no neutral light:

    -Bike is in neutral
    -I get the taillight and hear a nice click when I turn the ignition to ON
    -I checked fuses, all good
    -When i push the starter button, I don't get a click in the solenoid, so that's good (I replaced the solenoid twice now...the original, then an aftermarket, and now this is my 3rd (also an aftermarket))

    What should I check next?

    Update: There was a plug not even connected in the headlight, it must have rattled loose on my ride yesterday, plugged it back in and bike started, HOWEVER, I intermittently get a netrual light...which is new.

    My headlight assembly is missing some screws so i need to get some to prevent additional rattling inside the assembly.

    But, what's with the neutral light? I can now start the bike in neutral, and then the light comes up, but the light doesn't show when the ignition is turned ON and the bike is in neutral.

    Have you gone through and verified all of your electrical connections are clean and tight?
    Pay special attention to the ground connections.

    @Stumplifter Yea.

    I have another question - does anyone know what size the headlight assembly screws are? It's the screw that holds the headlight and housing to the actual assemlby. Mine are missing, and I'm sure that extra rattling:

    1. Isn't good for connections
    2. Isn't good for the headlight (one big bump and out the headlight comes)
    3. Is the reason I was able to ride and start yesterday but then find a plug UNPLUGGED this morning
