Good morning gentlemen. I'm new to this forum and new to XJ models but not new to motorcycles. I recently just found a steal on CL and I bought a fairly nice in good shape 1982 Yamaha xj650 Seca for 200 bucks cash. Here is a few pics of it before I start working on it. It does need a little work and some stuff which I want to learn how to do which is why I bought it and I plan to turn it into a bobber/ cafe racer kinda. It needs several things to begin with. I'm in need of a whole 650 front end. My bike and the guy I got it from last night said the forks are gone in it for sure and will need new forks and such. And need the first piece of advice please not sure but will I need a new or another triple tree and everything else that goes with the front end also? And should I replace forks and whole front end or rebuild the forks or what all do need for that. Like I said I'm a newbie and any advice and help would be greatly appreciated and passed on. Other things he says it needs and need is a
    Starter
    The forks and front-end or?
It needs a Clutch he said and what would all I need with that? He said it needs the basket but do I also need to replace the plates and if so what else?
And the only other things it needs other than me cleaning and maybe rebuilding the carbs is a battery and new brakes. If anyone has any of these things listed and you could help a good guy out I would appreciate it very much and please PM me. My name is Edwin btw and very privileged to meet all you guys. Thanks again and have a blessed and safe day

The 650 non-turbo Seca was a one-year-only bike for the USA.

I would highly recommend restoring it rather than cutting it. Find a cheap 650 maxim to do that to. The maxim parts are a-dime-a-dozen, the 650 Seca parts are not.

If you really need to replace front stuff, the 650r stuff is different than the 650j stuff.

More questions, feel free to ask

I have front forks in complete working order. No noticeable leaks. Ready to ship. Cheap.

I also have a clutch pack. No idea on how many miles on them, but grabbed just fine.

    Along with front calipers:

I responded to your long message, Edwin. Please don't come across it as me being negative. It sounds like Busted Knuckles can help you out better than I can.
