I recently was wondering how I could use my front turn signals as running lights for more visabuilty out on the road day and night on my 82' 1100 maxim . After looking at the stuff on u-tube and looking at my manual I decided to tear Into It to my supprize It wasn't that hard after all . The previous owner had the wire from the signal, black with a white stripe (correct me if I'm wrong ) Unhooked and taped up the only thing was the male ends were gone grrrrr. , anyway you run the black and white striped wire to the double female plug that has a blue wire on It and viola ! You now have running lights and turn signals . It was the same thing for the left side also . The most time consuming thing was soldering new male plugs on and taking out the butt connectors the previous owner had installed and hard wiring them and of course taking off the after market fairing and dual head light that's on this thing . I hope this thread helps someone else out there !

Your 1100 would have had running lights to begin with; the OP mucked that up. The other machines need different signal lights as Jetfixer mentioned.

+1 for the 1100's. Chacal sells a three wire set up that will work with the existing signals on the '82 650 (the blue wire connector is in the bucket but not connected to anything).

I also found a red wire that has power all the time(with switch on or off) Anybody got a clue what that is for ? I just taped it up to avoid a short in the future .

Idk about the 1100 but my 650 also has that wire which I believe is power to a possible optional factory component (the schematics show it not connected to anything). I've never checked to see if it is hot with the switch off. I probably need to do that tho.

I guess you could run a power option like a cigarette lighter to it so you could use it when the option is engaged ?

I think that red wire is for a clock.

I tested the red wire on my 650 a few minutes ago. It's what Greenhorn said.
