I find the '85 Maxim-X (XJ700X) to be a very nice machine, but the one area that
I would like to change is the seat. The buttons are the culprits.
Has anyone found a seat, without buttons, that fit the two-piece XJ bikes?
I also own an '87 Yamaha Fazer (FZX700) and its seat is much more comfortable.

Do you have an upholstery shop in town?

The black seats (front and back) on my 85 xj700n don't have the buttons, but my second bike with the red seats does. So maybe someone more knowledgable may correct me, but I believe they made a few different seat options. So you may just have to look around for the one you'd like, but I agree with K-moe, that an upholstery shop may be your best bet. Having both seats reupholstered at the same time means the material will match perfectly. Plus you can button or not button to your individual taste and have more choice in material.

The X had multiple buttons, the airhead has none on the pillion seat, 1 on the drivers seat. If you don't like the button, remove it
