Just bought a 82 xj550 seca. good bike, the only problem is an oil leak right at the oil filter pod thing. i got a new oil filter an gasket and hope to fix that.

took her out for a jaunt around town. my first time on a motorcycle turned started with a lap around the block and then i was gone for an hour.

anyoen know what that oil leak might be all about? thanks - greg

I'll be the first to say welcome, and add the usual proviso - the more information the better. I will guess when you say Oil Filter Pod Thing you are referring to the oil filter at the front of the bike?

I'd say your first move is the right one - replace the oil, the filter and fit your new gasket. You should be able to check the integrity of the cover at that time. I have an XJ900 with a 4 to 1 exhaust, so I have to remove my exhaust system to do so, but it's a simple job.

When you have a spare $10 I'd recommend you then fork out for the XJ-CD that floats around here. Packed with great info.

    Enjoy and congrats....

There are 2 gaskets when you remove the filter houseing the big one and theres a small one on the filter bolt change both!! Clean and check the houseing for crakes or bamage sence it is derectly behing the front wheel road dabree can kick up and damage it. I had the happen before.

Welcome DC (again, see other posts), be advised that the Fram oil filter kit comes with the required new o-rings (2), available at most automotive supply stores (Kragens can order them, about a day or so to deliver at $6 a pop). Back when I was in Davis (1984), they could have called the place Sleepy Hollow, has it changed much?
