    Hey all,

I have spent quite a bit of time here since the first part of May when I picked up my new to me 82 XJ650 Seca. Decided that it was probably in my and the bike's best interest if I actually started to contribute a bit to give back to you all. The picture is from morning after I brought her home, a nice $200 craigslist purchase that required a battery to start.

The PO had dreams of getting it back on to road, but based on the right side damage, his nerves weren't going to let that happen. I threw a new battery in it and was able to get it to fire and run, though it took quite a bit of choke to do so. I am much more of a function over form type of person, so knew that making it run 100% is first before too much aesthetic work goes into it.

    Work done to this point:

New master cylinder, clutch and brake levers
    Replaced rear brake lever
    Replaced side alternator covers
    Replaced gauges
Rebuilt front calipers with new pads and rotors
    Rebuilt the rear brake
    Rebuilt switches
Installed new led blinkers and relay
    New plugs and wires
Fabricated a new indicator display with led lights, not super happy with the layout, but the leds are bright
    Mirrors, grips and foot rests
Finally, since I know it will be asked.....
Checked valves, and took the carbs to church...... grrrrrrr!

The PO claimed that the PO to him had dropped over $900 in carb work. Wow do I need a job like that, do damage and get paid for it. When I opened the carbs I found all 4 main air jets were stripped, two had been partially drilled out, mostly tearing out the carb body threads. Luckily I found a steal on Ebay and picked up a set of untouched Hitachi's for $40 + shipping. They were filthy, but unmolested. 10 hours of cleaning later and I was able to start tuning. Synced the carbs last night, happy with the results, but still chasing the right idle mix.

    To do:

    SS Brakes
    Metal work on indicator display
Clean up the rats nest and install ATC fuse block

Once the snow flies I will be stripping it down for paint and powder.

So far, this bike has been a trip and the assistance I have found here has been indispensable. Thanks.

@cgutz do you ever run down to the Diner for Last Thursday Nights?

I've been to Diner but not for Last Thursday Nights. After googling it sounds like something I should check out now that my old XJ seems road worthy again.

That PO guy always tells the truth about what he was told, but the prior PO guy....he's a right bastard.

Let me know if you are planning to stop by and I'll keep an eye open. There is a Facebook group for it that sends out a reminder. I think there were close to 100 bikes, not quite the rally, but a few more than 10 parking spots can hold.
