I got this bike for 100$ The carb came in a box with pieces missing
so i bought one from a guy who says it was rebuilt in 2006 {payed 50$} and then he fried his bike. Put it on my bike, moter started, it rev up to red line turn it off as fast as I could, adjusted the idle down, throttle not sticking. Started it again it went for the red line again. What do i do now?

Did I mention that I am new to this?

11500 miles on bike. sat 5 years

i'd check to make sure that the throttle is actually closed. If its stuck open then anything you do to the carb would be pointless. You can look at the lever action by looking under the tank at the middle of the carb rack, and pull the throttle handle. If there isn't any free play in the cable then it might be stuck on something or need to be adjusted so that its all the way closed at idle. If you set the pilot screws to around 2.5 turns out from seated each, and bench sync the carbs you'll be in a better place to diagnose. You can do a search and find out how to do both of those things.

good luck. 150 is a pretty sweet deal for a bike that already runs.

I think those are also symptoms of a vacuum leak. Check the condition of the carb boots. If that rubber is cracked and dry, you may have located your problem.

You have open butterflies. Two very likely reasons:

    1) Not hooked up correctly. (linkage caught, cable too tight etc.)

    2) Way out of sync.

Make sure the throttle cable is not reversed with the choke cable. Don't ask why I know this. The choke cable is the smaller of to two. It is conected at the side of the carb.
