will 550 maxim motor run off xj 600 carbs

    Ive got an 86 radian and the motors pretty well shot. Its knocking and leaving metal shavings in the oil. The only motor i can find in newfoundland to fit is a 550 maxim. Just wondering if i would need the carbs off of the 550 maxim. And will it be much trouble to get running properly

    Radian (YX600)has BS30 carbs, XJ550 has BS28s. I think it will probably run fine with Radian carbs -you may get more power but it may end up with a richer mixture. If you can get BS28s then so much the better.. BTW 1 you may also need the 550 TCI as the impedance of the pick-ups is different (or swap the pickups over). BTW2 wher does the XJ600 come into it?

    The radian is the bike i have now but the motors pretty well shot. And thw only motor i can find to fit the frame is the maxim. But its just the motor. So im wondering if i can put that in the radian frame and not have to much trouble

    OK I think it will run with teh YX carbs but it may need some tuning, as I mentioned I found that teh ignition pickups on a 550 are differnt so those may need to be swappes to match your Radian TCI also you will have to blank off the tacho drive on teh 550 engine's head. You could even try swapping the head form the Radian, but that may be the piece you describe as 'shot'...

    Yes i just found another radian the other day. So now i dont have to worry thatnks for the advice tho.
