Hey guys! New here and I can't seem to find any guides for a full carb rebuild with photos.

Here's my problem, I bought a rebuild kit on eBay and I don't think the parts I received will work on my carbs. Could someone tell me how to go about this or confirm if I got parts that will not work? Thank you!

@kmoe, I have the 81 xj650 maxim, and I bought the xj650 maxim rebuild kit.

But another reason to buy from xj4ever.... the filter screen is not on seat housing. I have seen these before.

I got mine from Chacal and I don't think it came with the screens. I was able to remove the screens and put them on the new ones. The threads on the new one in your picture don't seem to go as high, but if they seat that wouldn't matter. By the way, Chacal recommended the ones with the brass needles and they have worked perfectly for me.

If I can't seem to find the right ones on eBay I'll probably go with xj4ever.

I'll be uploading more photos with the difference between what I have and what I have wrongly purchased.

You still should be able to use these , are needles rubber tipped or brass tipped? See if you can remove screen off old seat transfer to new.... Or take a qtip dipped in metal polish; chuck in a drill a couple of quick pulls should polish inside bore and make it nice and shinny inside. Use new needles should be good to go. Do not panic looking at picture these might be solid brass tip needles they do not have a hook . You will need to adjust float height , but it is not hard to do.

WHO'S rebuild kit. There are several manufacturers of parts, and not all of them are correct.
The beanie screens aren't needed. Install a fuel filter on the fuel line.

Does Chacal sell rebuild kits or do you have to purchase each piece seperately ?

He sells whole kits, or individual parts if you need. Catalog is linked in the upper right hand corner of every page. Start a conversation with him to order.

I just bought and installed this kit. Same exact source from eBay, for my 80 xj650. The parts seem compatible, but as you found out, you're left to guess at what goes where and what is "extra." For me it was enough of a reminder to only buy from @chacal next time around, if only for the excellent product knowledge and support. He's been super helpful on the other parts I needed, and deserves the business on even the cheap parts, I think.

As for this kit, did you end up returning it, or going ahead with the replacement parts you bought? I'm not sure what to make of the photo you posted with the blue and red marks. Was that just for you to keep track of parts, or are you marking things based on what you were able to match and not match?

There's a cheap carb rebuild kit on ebay . $35.00(my offer) for all 4 with extra goodies like slide needles, drain screws
and mixture screws as well as jets (all brass) The tolerances are lousy and if you look at them under a jewelers
loop they have burrs and rough spots. especially the holes in the float bowl needle seats. From now on I'll
only buy gaskets,"0" rings, shaft seals and replace what's obviously messed up. Other than that I'll clean and polish
    the existing parts.

I actually ended up not doing anything about since I missed the shipping date for a refund. I think I'll get the bike running first and go from there. I'm almost there though.

Hi Guys, Jack here in Akron, Ohio. I must of bought the same rebuild kit as dhpinoy. It was the only kit I found that had everything plus stuff I don't need and for a great price. The kit was made in Taiwan. All the parts don't look ZACTLY like the originals. a A lot of my originals jets were chewed up by someone who didn't realize the old jets needed some loosening up help before they were going to begin to turn. I was originally going to just replace the parts that were damaged but since seeing the slight differences I think I'm going to replace everything with the new parts. I wish I could remember who I bought them off of to see if anyone else here has had experience with them. I too bought them off eBay. Has anyone else here bought the Taiwanese rebuild kits? Taiwan has caught up to the Japanese in quality in manufacturing so I figured it was a good bet. Especially when I saw so many rebuild kits at ridiculous prices. But the jets is what concerned me most. The countersink in the top of the jets are not quite as deep in the Taiwanese jets. Hole is the same. I didn't know if the depth of the countersink would adversely affect or have a different affect on the carb. Thanks.

I just read Justin F's reply. Thanks for the info. I wish I had seen it before I began writing my book. Jack
