[IMG] [IMG] So, long story short my bike as stolen and recovered by the police. The losers who took it ripped out the ignition and hot-wired it, popped open the fuel cap, and the kick-stand spring is missing.. The bolt for the front-left blinker is also missing, as well as my licence plate... I have a journey ahead of me to get this thing back on the road, but it still runs like a champ!! Does anybody have a spare ignition and key set they could give me/trade/sell real cheap? I am a broke-ass college student, and the cops made me pay them $200 for a release fee for my own bike!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a few petcocks from an 85 XJ700 I could trade.. So far this has been a great bike community, I have got my bike thousands of miles down the road because of the knowledge and sharing on this board... I am hoping my luck continues to flourish with you guys and I can come up with an ignition before school starts (Aug 27th).. Id much rather pull up to campus on my bike than on the bus..

You got lucky. Most recoveries come back in far worse shape.

I like your optimism. Most would consider having their bike stolen and trashed unlucky.

Glad to see you got it back. Can't believe they charged you a impound fee.
Will your insurance cover any of the expenses to get it back on the road?

I have the Ignition/Gas Cap/Seat/Helmet lock set as well as the spring and bolt for you that I can donate to the cause. Can you post a pic of the bolt you're missing so I know what to dig out of my spares?

I only have one key for the lock set, so you'll have to get a spare made (Chacal has the blanks). The cap is not for a California model (it's pretty rusty anyway) and you will have to eventually swap over the tumbler to a non-vented cap if that's what you need to stay compliant for emissions inspection. The seal is marginal, however it will help get you on the road in the meantime.

    Tony--

Thanks a lot man!!! It means the world to me -- I actually bought this bike for $150 back in November in Leavenworth KS.. The old man I got it from was a board member of his church, and he had the bike parked in his garage since '07, after a near wipe-out. It took a ton of tinkering, some shop time, and a some help from you guys on here, but I got that thing going.. I knew my guardian Angeles were looking out for me when my bike bucked that loser off and the cops got him.. My brother said my bike wanted to come home, and now its home...

The piece of paper the cops gave me after I gave them $200 said "release fee".. the guys at the tow yard were cool, they let me push it home.. Unfortunately, I only carry liability because of my shoe-string budget, so no dice on help from Geico there (but I do like their insurance prices on my bike, $14 a month).

Ill post pics in a bit of the missing bolt location and gas cap.. Thanks again, Tony -- you're a life-saver, man!!!

I don't mind a little pay back to help those in need. Post up the picks and start a conversation with me so I can have your info to get the care package sent out to you tomorrow.

But, its not a bolt that's missing it's a nut.. I can take the other one off and go the hardware store to find a match.. [IMG]
The gas cap can be opened with a flathead, so I can swap it out pretty easy.. It looks like they jammed another key in there and broke it off.. [IMG]

OK, looks like the threaded end of the turn signal stalk that's missing the nut. You could get that a local hardware store, but are the wires still good and does the turn signal function?

The lock cylinder on the gas cap can be swapped out to the one I'll be sending. Chacal has a great write up here:

Not sure why you had trouble with starting a conversation, so I did. And, BTW you should confirm the friend request from Stephanie and meet her. She's only 2.8 miles away.....
