    My first post!

Got a xj750 maxim a month or so ago. Ran very well in the begining but starting to have some issues. Rode the bike 120 miles without a hiccup and parked it. Went to ride it and found a large puddle of gas and oil under the bike.

My buddy and I took a look and from the forum I have already deduced I left the petcock on and the gas leaked out and filled the oil and then both oil and gas leaked out from the seal in between the drive shaft and engine.

So I guess my question is this.

#1 buy new drive shaft seal?
#2 what needs adjusted in the carbs if anything. Haven't touched them and don't know what PO did.
    #3 Rebuild petcock?
#4 anything else the xj masters can think of?

Thank you all for your time!

Rebuild petcock. Rebuild carbs (they have to be out to address the leaking fuel, so may as well do it all at once and save you the trouble of needing them off again later).

I doubt that the gas/oil leaked from the driveshaft seal, but instead it ran out of the air box and onto/into the driveshaft gator.

K moe beat me to it....drain your oil I would recommend Valvoline 10w40 motorcycle oil. I would suspect the needle valves are at fault and possible float sticking open .

Any issues with having gas in the airbox? How do you clean it out or clean the filter?

    Thanks for your quick responses!

Remove airbox top cover and filter and clean out with a rag you can reach in this way.

About the petcock as well, how should I have it when the bike is off?
There are only 3 settings ON, PRI, Reserve
    Thanks Chris

When it's on the "on" position the petcock is vacuum operated and fuel should only flow when the engine is running. Unless it's defective in which case you will need to rebuild it
