Has anyone seen the video of the xj 650 maxim with 4 turnouts off the header pipes? It sounds wicked, may be a good weekend project.....

I haven't seen the video, but I think that what I did with my exhaust is similar to what you're describing. After seeing what it does when started in a gravel driveway I may nickname it the street sweeper...have yet to get it out on the road, still waiting for a couple parts.

I wouldn't think it sounds good that way. In my opinion it would sound too loud that way.

It's counterintuitive (most complex things are, unfortunately), but open exhaust can (often) inhibit the flow of gasses out of the combustion chamber. More noise, less power.

I'd hate having a bike with an exhaust like this in my neighbourhood.

Haters gonna hate. I think it sounds good, and it only cost me a couple bucks for some j-turns, a couple minutes with a sawzall, and a couple more minutes with a welder. Looked good enough without the wrap, but I don't like getting burned when I can avoid it.

Honestly, I've ridden louder bikes, and I'm not going to be riding it home at 2am and revving the s*** out of it in the driveway. I mean, come on guys, I'm not the rambunctious youth I once was.

My neighbors don't hate my xj, but it has never started once while I've lived here. How does the old adage go, dead motorcycles make great neighbors?
