Hey guys! Front end is torn apart for brakes and forks right now. Had to take headlight casing off and got to thinking- has anybody here ever tried an H4 sized LED bulb in the stock housing? Really interested in the idea of better sight and visibility while keeping the sweet 80's square bucket. Read through a few posts regarding bulb swaps, and understand that 55/60w is the upward limitation and the stock bulb in the bike.

    Found this: http://www.cyclopsadventuresports.c...ight-Bulb-for-Dirt-BikesDual-Sports_p_97.html
It runs at 20/30w, and would be a little more junk to fit in that little space (fan) but looks to be plug n' play. Digging around, trying to figure out about legality for WA presently.

Thoughts? Has anyone tried already? Any issues to be expected from the atari? Is the Seca AC or DC powered (yeah... need to learn about electricity someday....)?

The trouble is the reflector in ths stock husing being optimized for halogen or tungsten bulbs. You'll find that an LED bulb will not give anywher as near as good of a useable light. The real bugaboo will be the cutoff so you aren't blinding oncoming traffic.
If you want to go LED you'll have to put a LED housing and bulb into the bucket.
Look for one that is DOT approved.

All XJ machines have AC alternators that are rectified to DC.

If you want better lighting. Look at the sylvania silverstar halogen bulb. It will work with your current reflector, and gives much better lighting over the standard bulb.

There is also a wiring modification that re-routes the headlight feed via a second relay to reduce the voltage drop through the switchgear. I think it's in the XJ4Ever catalog.
