Hey guys, a few years back, I picked up an 82 Seca 750 and tore it down with plans of rebuilding it. Unfortunately now 4 years later its still in pieces thanks to a deployment to Afghanistan. So what I'm asking now is WHERE DO I START??????? I have no clue where to begin and I'm dying to ride. I know I need to rebuild/clean the motor and internals, I need a new harness, and tank (I will be purchasing a parts bike in a few weeks) But I would at least like to get the motor cleaned and rebuilt, installed in the frame, wheels on etc. Also, the parts bike I'm considering picking up has a water cooled engine, it's a maxim, would that be better than my 750? I'll also be posting pics of what I would like the bike to look similar to upon completion. Thanks guys, this is new to me, especially building the motor part. Thanks.

nvm, not posting anything cuz I cant resize them here lol, but I guess the final product isnt really that important anyway when the bike isn't running at all.

unless the engine had a yuge amount of miles, and has not been totally ragged out , engine might be ok. First check compression dry/and wet record and check against manual 135 psi plus engine is good if less possible problem . Second check and adjust the valves IE any valve that is out of range from chart in manual will need a shim change . Carbs should be taken to church and replace ALL the seals IE butterfly seals ,idle mixture screw seals , gaskets ,needle and seat . On the upper rt corner of page start a conversation with Chacal at xj4ever ... has all the cool new parts. As to a parts bike the water cooled xj is totally different you might get some parts to fit , but I can't say just what would work. Seca and Maxim are different , I do not think a wiring harness will work as the water cooled are a later model. This is just a few random thoughts.
