Should be a direct fit. Engine block is identical but for paint, only difference is cylinder and head. exhaust is same and intake as well.
Do a valve clearance check before you install it, much easier! And run power to starter with plugs out in case engine is a bit dry. This will also make sure valves are seating well before you adjust valves.
Only variation is oil cooler port at filter base
Maxim never had this but if you have the cooler from the Seca, great add on.
If not remove the adapter for cooler.
And the maxim uses rubber dampers in the frame.

As far as I can tell all XJ engines use the same engine pickup units
Checked on Yamahapartsnation and part number is the same

Among the 650/750 this would be correct. The 550, 900, and 1100 use different pickups.

True but could you squeeze an 1100 into a 650 frame ;)
    We were talking 650's specifically

    Understood!
    And Yes! I can stuff a 900 into a 650 frame!

Never said it was wrong. Just added a little clarification!
Someone a couple years from now doing a research query could come across the post and not know it was specifically targeted at the a 650.
Easier to stop misinformation before it starts.

That's why I said 1100 because I knew you can stuff a 9 into a 650 for the ultimate sleeper , btw do you have a spare 900 motor I can cram into my xj650rj? ;)

No. But I have a complete powertrain (crank, rods, pistons, cylinders, head, cams) going on a set of XJ750K cases!

You just know, a piece from here, a piece from there. Eventually it just comes together!
Need to get the 12 over forks, and the 6 degree tree, Then I will be ready to do the frame!
That will be when the fun begins!:):)
