turn signal eliminator

    Has anyone eliminated their rear turn signals? I have see where you can incorporate them into your brake light. Any ideas or suggestions!

    Well - I suppose if it's something you really wanted to do - it wouldn't be too hard to wire up some LED modules inside the brake housing to do turn signal duty.

    Not something I'd do though - I'm a big fan of separate, bright yellow turn signals.

    If I can remember correctly, eliminating turn my signals was easy. I had to loosen one nut and then cut a few wires with my dikes. Tada.

    There are LED tail lights on the market that have the signal lights incorporated inside the taillight. Checkout Ebay for LED taillights and you'll see what I mean. There are several styles that will work on just about any bike. >PD<

    Yu could check out some truck lights - I know they even have a light at u-haul that is about the same size as the stock taillight on my seca. You could replace the bulbs with led's and wire em up as blinkers... Might require a kit to make them work as blinkers and taillight.

    I want a XJ-Bikes.com Electronic Genus to lay-out plans for a D-I-Y Brake Light Modulator with both Turn Signals Flashings.

    When I hit my rear brake ... I'd like all my rear lights to Flash 3 Times and then my Brake Light come-on with an additional Bulb I'll mount inside there for increased brightness.

    I can solder ... and follow a set of plans.

    MiCarl bought an IC that will flash the brake light thrice, then hold it steady... What you propose does sound interesting. I'll see what I can come up with, it's been a while since I dabbled in electronics

    worm, an 1156 light bulb is rated for about 21 watts at 12 volts. Watt's law tells us that the amperage should be 1.75 (I = P/V or I=21/12). Then Ohm's law says the resistance should be about 6.85 ohms (R = V/I or R=12/1.75). Hope that helps.

    EDIT: I should add that you need to look at the turn signal circuit as a whole (Front and Rear on one side or the other). If you're replacing both bulbs (front and rear) with LEDs, then you need to calculate your total resistance as if you're solving for a parallel resistance circuit. See here for more information. Put simply, your needed resistance value would actually be closer to 3.425 for this particular circuit (refer to Fig. 3-44). If you're replacing just the rear bulbs, then refer to Fig. 3-45. You'll have to plug in your own numbers though.

    The resistors I'm using for my turn signals are 4.5 ohm 50W aluminum houseing ones from Mouser Electronics:

    A bit excessive but the don't get near as hot under use.
