Hello all from texas, im new to bikes but know my way around a car engine pretty good. i gotta have a forum home for every vehicle i own. found this place looking for parts actually. i was given a 1985 xj700xn a few days ago by a coworker. he said the throttle got stuck 5 years ago so he parked it. it sat outside the whole time unfortunately but somehow still looks pretty good cosmetically. i attempted to start it tonight. i hooked a battery to it and lights came on, it even turn over. really just wanted see what would function and what wouldnt. after giving it a few starts i noticed gas leaking from what looked like all four carbs. nothing leaked form the overflow tube just what looked like maybe the float bowl gasket and the single screws on the left side of the carbs. did some research and found the float needle could be stuck. i would like to do a very mild rebuild at this point. could anyway chime in on possible causes? and how i go about ordering from the site vendor here? maybe get some gaskets and float needles order friday. Thanks in advance yamaha.jpg

image.jpeg image.jpeg Same problem on my 750x. One stuck float along with a case of green monster inside. Complete stripping of carbs will be needed. And a valve adjustment will need to be done , a daunting task on these motors. Had to change 8 shims on mine but end result is a very quick bike. It can roast the rear tire into a smoking pile of rubber;)
As far as parts for this click on xj4ever icon top right of the page. Len has EVERYTHING and gets it to you quick as a wink
