At the risk of being blasted as pig ignorant (I am on this topic) would anyone be so kind a to give a "brief" account of the differences in say the '82 models of the 750s. (if there were 750 Maxims & Secas in that yr)

Is one a sport bike & the other a sport-tourer etc etc

Other than different riding position (buckhorn handlebars on Maxim vs. flat on Seca) I believe the differences are primarily styling. They have the same engine/transmission.

You will also notice on some SECA's that the suspension is different. Some have the front forks linked to the front brakes via a banjo bolt. Some had air shocks in back. The shifter is also pivoting from the front, not the back. There are some subtle differences. I have seen some with Mikuni carbs vs Kiehin (sp?). But I think that was an aftermarket add-on.

Some might say one thing or another.

    IMO :!:
The Seca is more like a sport touring bike.
    And Maxim is more cruiser.

Both are mainly due to the handle bars though... :p

It's not only the handle barrs that make the difference. The riding position and feel of the bikes are different. I did not like the riding position on the max, prefer the seca, easyer to ride round town for me coming from "duel sports" bikes. The Seca is quite a high seating position and you lean slightly forward, indeed it feels like you are sitting further forward as well. The bars are narrow and low. You turn with a good push down on the bar. Your feet are under you.

The Max you sit lower and further back, also you sit more upright with your feet further forward.

    Seca Sports tourer.
Maxim Cruiser, though I prefer the term Chopper (Cruiser being some kind of warship!).

They do feel like two different bikes.

All IMHO got a Seca now had a Maxim Midnight 650 15 years ago.
