I took my bike to the shop last week to get the steering head bearings replaced. It seemed like a big enough job for the "professionals" to handle. However, when I got my bike back, I started to ride it home, but it was idling at over 3k! So I drove it back to the shop. Apparently the mechanic thought it was idling too low when he took it for a test ride that he jacked it up a bit. He lowered it and sent me on my way. Now it's acting funky.

When the engine is fully warm, it will idle at stop signs at around 2500 now. However, when I pull it into my driveway (slight incline), put it in neutral and get off of it, it idles between 1200 and 1400, what it was before. WTF is going on with this, and why couldn't the damn mechanic leave well enough alone?

The handle bars were removed from the tripple tree...go chance it is not in same position ...throttle cable is holding throttle plate slightly open would be a good place to start looking. Remove cable from holder at carbs...see if idle drops lower if so you found problem.

are you facing up hill or down hill in the driveway?

check your wet set fuel height.

I do agree with Jetfixer check the routing of the throttle cable and slack at carbs adjust it and lube it

You'll also need to play around with the idle a bit to find a good compromise between running tooo hight when hot, and too low when just warm.
Also, skip the shops. You never told the mechanic to touch the idle, and he should have called you before doing that work.

Haven't been riding at all since my post, but I did look at the throttle cable. It does seems to slack up at the carbs when fully retracted. It could be a float issue and I was facing slightly uphill in my driveway when the idle lowered. However, it was never a problem before, and the only thing I know that was touched other than the throttle was the idle screw. I'll lower it a bit and see if I can't get it working better.
