I just finished wrapping up my XJ750 Seca after changing the steering head bearings. I think I remember taking this piece of harness out of the headlight bezel but can't remember where it goes, also everything seems to be working properly and I can't find any unmatched connectors in the bezel. Does anyone recognize this?

That does not look familiar to me either.

I just seen that rubber piece on the right side of wires in your picture, it goes to the starter solenoid, right next to the battery

Thanks for the offer Greggy but... brain cells have just been stimulated by your post... this is the connector that goes to the stator in my CB650 Honda. I replaced the stator a few weeks ago and this is the connector from the old one. It must have gotten mixed up with the Seca parts. That rubber connector has been haunting me. It's the seal for the back of the alternator case where the wire passes through.

From a Honda?so it's not a fuel sensor wire, maybe neutral indicator? So you hiding Honda parts in your seca??? Smuggling Honda parts to a Yamaha party...
The grommet on the wire was the stumper.

No, when I replaced the stator and rotor in my CB650 a couple months ago this connector was left on the floor and somehow got pushed behind the lawn mower when I cleaned up afterwards. I did a much more thorough clean up after changing the Seca's steering head bearings... actually pushed the lawnmower out of the way and swept behind it, which is where the mystery part turned up.

The good news is, I finally found the little Yamaha emblem that covers the two screws that hold the center handlebar cover. When I took this thing off I thought "this looks like something I'm going to loose", so I put it someplace where I wouldn't lose it... or find it. (In the case with the Dremel.) I forgot my number one rule for not losing easily lost parts.... pretend you just lost the item and then put it in the first place you look for it.

I have a "what the hell is it bucket" just for those things you can't toss because you know it goes somewhere and once a month I sort everything by brand and tag them ;)
