With the end of riding season approaching for many of us I'm curious what the members think the following service would be worth.

    - Indoor storage Nov. - April.
    - Battery topped off and maintained.
    - Fuel treated.
    - Change oil, fork oil, filters and plugs.
    - Lube cables, chains and change gear oil.
    - Inspect valve clearances, brakes, cables, sprocket chain etc..

    The storage factor is geographical.

    Near Boston:
Storage ... alone ... for 5 Months would be: $3,750.00
    (30 Days X 5 Mo. X $25.00 @ Day ... that's right; per day!)

Makes me think that having a nice 2 Car Garage built, replacing what once was my Garage and Shop in the former 1-Car attached spot I have now ... (Can't get a car in here now that the Family Room and Laundry Room are done) ... wouldn't be a bad idea, if I left the car outside in the driveway and stored 6 -to- 8 bikes in my half this winter and just made sure the doors were locked every so often!

Wow, here they do it by month. There's a Olsen Powersports on Grand River, just south of 7 mile (MiCarl knows where that is) charges I think $500 for six months with those services. Or maybe a different amount... I had the bike apart last winter, so I stored it in the garage.

I rode my bike into Boston for years to beat the high-cost of Parking and Tickets.

An all-day Park was 20-Bucks ... If you went overtime at a Meter is was 25-Bucks ... No Standing is 50-Bucks ... and a "Parking Trespass" was the shirt off your back. 25 for the Ticket, 75 for the Tow and 125 to get the car out of impound.

Rain of shine, I rode the 650 Special, 700N Virago or the 900 into Boston and found a place where nobody goes to cram it until 11:30PM or later.
Some nights were darn cold making the 22 Mile Commute.

I figured, over the course of 20 Years, I saved over a Million Dollars! : )

It seems that I see most winter storage places charging $350-$400 without the extra services so $500+ is my vote. Of course I don't have the extra cash to spend 1/3 of the value of my bike on storage so mine spent the last 2 years outside covered. This year it says in my parents garage... some 350 miles away.

Black Betty is staying in the garage and being rode on nice days, so most likely once a week. Do my own winterizing. Easy enough. so I voted less then 200. Wouldn't spend more on a bike that I got for 750.

This poll doesn't apply to us down South.
We have cinder blocks and front yards for that!
Besides, don't you people have garages?

i don't think most people here are Joe Average so a pole here is skewed
Joe might go for 300 plus parts for service and 100 storage
but that service might open a whole can of worms, what if the battery is on the way out, or the cam cover has a few stripped bolts, the threads may come out with the plugs etc. etc.
theres some real bone heads out there
for 3500 i'am parking it in the living room and watching hockey on it

I know Joe Average doesn't hang out here. I'm just trying to get a feel from the members about what the value might be to people that don't do their own wrenching and/or have more toys than space.

I'm considering a venture and trying to get a feel for what the economics might be. Thanks everyone for their input.

All of you that are not in the land of salt and slush......Just keep rubbing it in. We don't know where you live. Yet.

I can relate to the winter lay up period in Michigan. I was lucky enough growing up there to have a garage. However after I moved out, living up in Gaylord not so lucky. Was forced to leave all the toys in the back yard under all that snow whilst we rode the snomobiles. A good tarp was all I used and pulled the batt's inside. Just had to remember their whereabouts in the yard when the snow got over 5' so we didn't run over them with the snomobiles !

I can remember digging out the TS250 studding the tires and racing on the ice Lake Otsego one year ! Was hell in the turns on them snomobiles !

Here in Tx there are plenty of storage facilities if needed for about $40/mo large enough for 2 bikes if you don't ride year round. But with temps typically 50 - 60F during the winter with only around 2 weeks below 30f most ride them.

MiCarl, I'd offer your customers three levels of service:

    1. For $300 you get our bike winterizing special which includes:
    - Battery topped off and checked.
    - Fuel treated.
    - Change oil, fork oil, filters and plugs.
    - Lube cables, chains and change gear oil.
    - Inspect valve clearances, brakes, cables, sprocket chain etc..
    2. For $200, we offer for those who only need bike storage:
    - Indoor storage Nov. - April (negotiable).
    - Battery topped off and maintained while in storage.
    - Fuel treated.
    3. And for $400, we offer our full winterizing and storage package:
    - Indoor storage Nov. - April (negotiable).
    - Battery topped off and maintained while in storage.
    - Fuel treated.
    - Change oil, fork oil, filters and plugs.
    - Lube cables, chains and change gear oil.
    - Inspect valve clearances, brakes, cables, sprocket chain etc..

That way you give your customers a choice and you're more likely to have a service that fits every rider's need. Some riders need maintenance, seem need storage, and some need both. Be flexible... and good luck on your venture!

There is no room in my garage, so I drive it 15 miles to park it in my Grandma's empty garage. For free :)
