Howdy all, I have been thumbing through the site for a while and I was forwarded to the local parts vendor for the site. Believe me I have scanned the catalog and I seem to be coming up short. I am looking for a new petcock fuel filter. The one that I have is completely ruined and I would like to get a new one. The petcock is dirty but salvageable and I was wondering that in the event that it isn't possible to get a replacement filter could I completely remove it in favor of an in-line fuel filter just after the petcock? I'll try to post some pics but the forum thinks I'm a spambot whenever I do so bear with me here. Cheers.

Update - Yeah still can't post pics so I put some links for y'all.
Update 2 - Can't post links either, if a mod/admin would get into contact with me concerning my problem I would greatly appreciate it. I want to provide as much info as possibly but for now we gotta make do with what we got. I left a comment on an admin profile but I have yet to get a response. Thanks.

The "filter" in the petcock is also the pair of tubes that separates the main fuel supply from the reserve. You will need one, unless you like running out of gas without warning
You are one post away from being able to post links and pics. Spam filter of sorts.

Ok. I figured there was some sort of post requirement to prove you are human. Although I could still be a robot, y'all'll never know! Anyway, I browsed the catalog and I was unable to find a replacement. Any suggestions?

fl4) OEM Yamaha and aftermarket petcock IN-TANK FUEL FILTERS are your first defense against crud and grit getting into your carbs and causing problems with worn float needle valves and/or carb flooding.

HCP116 OEM petcock in-tank FUEL FILTER. This is the tall, white filter unit (yours may have turned brown after all these years) that fits onto the petcock and goes up into the tank. 94mm (about 3-3/4") tall, which may differ slightly from the stock filter height, but it doesn't interfere with anything and doesn't change the performance. It's a swell idea to clean or replace this filter whenever you have the petcock out for servicing. Fits all XJ550, XJ650 (except Turbo models), all XJ700, XJ750 (except XJ750-D), XJ900RK, XJ1100, and all XS1100 Special/Midnight Special models.

NOTES ON USE OF THE HCP116 FILTER:
    - some original petcocks used a shorter 2" tall filter, which is no longer available, and this taller filter will work just fine in place of it, but may change the determination point of when the "reserve" supply level is reached.

    - some minor trimming and/or "shaping" of the oval base of the filter may be necessary to insure a proper fit, as the filter base is very slightly oversized for some original petcocks, as can be seen in this thread: http://xjbikes.com/forums/index.php?threads/25058

    - on some petcocks, this filter can fit "either way" into the petcock body, so that the ON and RES locations could become reversed! Make sure you install it in the proper orientation!!

    There's only one question there.

    Question answered quick enough?

Thanks a ton, that's exactly what I was looking for. I suppose I didn't know the exact name of the part but y'all got me all sorted out. I'll be needing more help in the future as this project has got quite some work needed but as always you guys are as helpful as can be. Thanks again to all that replied. Cheers.
