Hello, I was messing around taking the tank off on my 82 XJ750 Maxim and when I went to remove the fuel line (custom farmer job if you can't tell) it pulled right out! Does anyone know if this is repairable? I could probably JB Weld it, but I am looking to see if there is any other suggestions that are a little more permanent. Is this thing press fit in? I was told (by my uncle's landlord) it was a new petcock, it did hold and pass fuel as far as I could tell, so if I could just get the piece back in it would be great.

    Thanks!

That part is a press-fit. Press it back into place. If it is easy to remove then a light smear of 2-part epoxy on the outside of the brass nipple is fine; a bearing retaining compound would work as well, and be less messy.

My prefrence however would be to replace the petcock with the correct vacuum-operated petcock, as originally supplied by Yamaha.

The short story is that was a new petcock; a cheaply made one.

Sounds good k-moe, I'll look into a new one. I'll probably epoxy this one until I get the tank all disassembled for painting. Just got a full gasket kit, so I'll be taking it all apart anyway. Thanks for the response!

I have to ask; what is the dubiously spliced/duct taped wire hanging over the carbs and down the side of the engine?
Is it a wire, or maybe a copper tube for an oil pressure gauge?

Oh I was hoping nobody would notice that! My uncle did that (check my profile for a quick description), it is the fuel gauge wire that I assume is spliced, covered in a piece of tube, and RTV'd to seal it. Don't worry, it's on the list of things to fix...
